Bellow Privacy Policy

Effective October 15, 2026.

The short version

Each section starts with a summary like these. The full text of each section is the policy.

Who we are

CASA Labs LLC makes Bellow. This policy covers the app and its website.

This policy covers the Bellow app and its website at casa.samwen.com/bellow. It is published by CASA Labs LLC (“we”), which is responsible for the personal data described here. Contact: [email protected].

On your Mac

Bellow records, transcribes, and cleans up your words on your own Mac, then forgets them. It keeps no recordings, no transcripts, and no history.

Bellow records, transcribes, and cleans up your dictation entirely on your Mac. It asks for two macOS permissions:

  • Microphone: to record while you hold or toggle the dictation shortcut.
  • Accessibility: to type the finished text into the app you are using.

Audio is processed in memory and is not saved. Transcripts are never written to disk, logged, or added to a history.

Bellow’s files are in ~/Library/Application Support/Bellow/: the models, the configuration, and a diagnostic log only your user account can read. The log records timings and errors, never your words, and is cleared every time Bellow starts. Bellow’s preferences (the org.bellow.app domain) hold your settings, the date your trial started, and, once you activate, your license key and purchase email. To remove everything, delete the app, that folder, and those preferences.

What leaves your Mac

Three connections, and none of them carries anything you said.

Bellow connects to the internet for only three things. None of them carries audio or text you dictated.

ConnectionWhenWhat is sentWho receives it
Model downloadFirst launch, or when you change the model tierA standard download requestHugging Face (huggingface.co)
Update checkEvery six hoursA request for the update feed, with the app’s version in the user agent. No system profile is sent. Our own web server at casa.samwen.com
License checkOn activation, about weekly after that, and when you deactivateYour license key and your Mac’s namePolar

During the trial, Bellow makes no license connection at all. Like any web server, Hugging Face and Polar see your IP address and keep their own logs, under their own privacy policies. We do not receive those logs.

Buying Bellow

Polar takes your payment and handles tax and refunds. We get your name, email, country, and order, and we use them only for your license, support, and tax records.

Polar sells Bellow as merchant of record. It collects your name, email, billing address, and payment details, and handles tax, receipts, and refunds under its own privacy policy. From Polar we receive your name, email, country, and order details, plus whether your key is active and the names of the Macs it is activated on. We never see your card details.

We use this information only to provide your license, give support, and keep tax records.

The website

Our server keeps standard logs for about two weeks. We count visits with our own analytics tool, which uses no cookies and can’t follow you around.

The website, the trial download, and the update feed are served from our own server at casa.samwen.com. Like any web server, it keeps access logs: your IP address, the file requested, the time, and your browser’s user agent. We use them only to keep the site running, keep them for about two weeks, and do not share them.

To know how many people visit the site and how many go on to download or buy, the website uses Umami, an analytics tool we run ourselves at analytics.samwen.com. It records the page you viewed, the site that referred you, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, language, and country, and whether you clicked a download or buy button. It sets no cookies and does not store your IP address. Visitors are told apart by a code that changes every day, so we cannot recognize you from one day to the next or follow you to other sites.

Emailing us

If you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can help you, and nothing more.

If you email us, we keep your message and our reply to give you support, for as long as your license is active or, if you have none, for up to a year. Bellow never sends us anything on its own. Any diagnostic details reach us only if you put them in an email yourself.

How we use and share data

We don’t sell it, rent it, share it, or use it for ads. Ever.

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data, and we do not use it for advertising. We process the data above to fulfill your license (our contract with you), to run and secure the website (our legitimate interest), and to keep tax records (a legal obligation).

We keep purchase records for as long as tax law requires.

Your rights

Ask us to see, fix, export, or delete your data, and we’ll reply within 30 days.

You can ask us to see, correct, export, or delete the data we hold about you, or object to how we use it, as the GDPR, the CCPA, and similar laws allow. We will reply within 30 days. To delete purchase data, we may also have to ask Polar to delete it. If you are in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.

Bellow is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes and contact

If we change this policy, we’ll post it here with a new date. If what leaves your Mac ever changes, we’ll say so in the release notes.

If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new date. A change to what leaves your Mac will be announced in the release notes.
